A spring clean works best when it is a series of small, planned jobs rather than an attempt to clean the entire house in one exhausting day. Start with the rooms you use most, work from high surfaces down, and leave floors until the end.
BEFORE YOU DIVE IN
Would you like a quick starting point or the full guide?
Start with a short plan
Choose two or three priorities for each room and gather the products you already use safely. Open windows where practical, check labels, and never mix cleaning chemicals. Work in short sessions and allow enough time for surfaces to dry.
Kitchen and bathroom
Clear worktops, clean frequently touched handles, and tackle appliance fronts and cupboard fronts with a material-appropriate product. In bathrooms, remove loose items, clean from higher surfaces down, and use products intended for each surface. Do not combine bleach with acids or ammonia-based products.

Bedrooms and living areas
Wash suitable bedding and washable covers according to their care labels. Dust lampshades and reachable high points carefully, clean switches and handles, and move light furniture only when it is safe. Vacuum upholstery with the appropriate attachment and check the maker's care instructions first.
Windows, floors and finishing touches
Clean reachable glass on a mild, calm day and avoid ladders or leaning out of windows. Vacuum or sweep before mopping. Finish by putting away products, checking that floors are dry and making a short list of jobs that genuinely need professional equipment.
Make it easier next time
Keep a small maintenance list and spread deeper jobs across the year. A regular ten-minute reset can reduce the amount of work needed at the next seasonal clean.
