Longer days are useful for outdoor cleaning, but strong sun and hot surfaces can make some products dry too quickly and leave marks. Choose a mild day where possible, check the material first and avoid using more pressure or chemicals than the surface needs.
BEFORE YOU DIVE IN
How would you like to plan your patio care?
Patios and paths
Sweep away loose grit and leaves before washing. Check the paving type, pointing and drainage; delicate stone, old mortar and timber-like composite surfaces may be damaged by aggressive pressure. Test any cleaner on a small inconspicuous area and follow dilution instructions.
Windows and frames
Remove loose dirt before wiping glass, use a clean applicator and avoid cleaning very hot glass in direct sun. Use a frame-safe method for uPVC, painted timber or aluminium, and never mix products. For upper floors, difficult access or large panes, use a suitably equipped professional rather than leaning from a window or using an unstable ladder.

Garden furniture and fabrics
Check care labels before washing cushions or covers. Use a gentle method on painted, woven or wooden furniture and let items dry fully before storing them. For outdoor upholstery, test in a hidden area and avoid soaking foam that cannot dry quickly.
Keep the space manageable
Brush high-traffic areas regularly, wipe spills promptly and clear leaves from safe, reachable drains. Do not climb onto a roof or reach over edges to clear gutters.
Heat, surface type and local water restrictions can affect the best method. Follow product and manufacturer instructions and use professionals for work at height. Images are illustrative, not before-and-after evidence or a promised result.
